Since its simple beginnings as a college student’s humble efforts to earn extra funds by selling carpet remnants to his classmates, Emerson Carpet One Floor & Home has made it their business to play an active role in the communities it serves.
In 1983, company owner Lee Emerson was a student at Louisiana State University when he decided to open his own small business. Selling carpet remnants he’d obtained from his father’s carpeting store, Lee began making the rounds in his old station wagon, selling remnants to students living in the dormitories. |
Lee completed his studies in 1986 and 1994 moved the business to a brick-and-mortar store his wife had designed. A year later, the family business joined Carpet One Floor & Home, North America’s largest cooperative of independently owned-and-operated flooring stores.
The family’s passion for the flooring business would expand to the next generations in 2005, when Lee’s two daughters, Olivia, and Ariane, joined the company taking over the positions of Finance Director and Operations Director, respectively.
From the very beginning, Emerson Carpet One Floor & Home has made it our business to engage with the communities we serve actively.
As a college student, Lee Emerson began selling carpet remnants around campus at Louisiana State University, using his old station wagon as his home base and excess remnants from his father's carpeting store as his inventory.
After marrying his high school sweetheart, Georgette, Lee rented his first business location.
By 1994, Lee had completed his studies and his carpet remnant business had evolved into a full-time, brick-and-mortar store, Emerson Carpets and Interiors. Georgette even designed the building, and a family business tradition continued.
One year later, the Emerson family joined forces with Carpet One Floor & Home, North America's largest cooperative of independently owned-and-operated flooring stores.
Passing down a passion to the next generations, Lee and Georgette's daughters, Ariane and Olivia, joined the business.
Over the years the two women worked in various positions learning the business. In 2015 they each assumed management positions of Finance Director and Operations Director, respectively.
Never one to turn away a neighbor in need, Emerson Carpet One opened its doors following the August 2016 natural disaster, housing several displaced families for an entire year.
Covid-19 hit hard, as it did for many, with the loss of those close and the loss of local businesses in the area. Emerson Carpet One spent the isolation time revamping their showroom providing a more enjoyable and easier shopping experience for their customers and focusing on a happier future.
While much has changed since our station wagon days, some things will always remain constant; our commitment to caring and customer service, our fair price, and our dedication to providing only the finest products.
Emerson Carpet One Floor & Home maintains an active presence in greater Baton Rouge.
From donating carpet squares and remnants to local elementary school reading programs and animal shelters to annual participation in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Race for a Cure, Emerson Carpet One takes enormous personal pride in paying it forward.
